Houston Airport System, Houston, Texas

As part of the professional IT on-call service team, PGA provided a design and construction administration service for an Advanced Surveillance System at Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby International Airport (HOU). The project consists of adding approximately 1000 high definition cameras to the existing system and replacing the entire digital recording system and software interface for the multi building, multi campus facility.

Additionally, PGA provided consulting, engineering, and design for the new “Free Airport WIFI” system based on IEEE 802.11ac. As part of the design scope, PGA conducted radio frequency (RF) site surveys, RF modeling, large scale data network design (greater than 100 network switches), provided recommendations for data network integration and IP security, and coordinated with system users such as commercial airlines, airport tenants, law enforcement agencies, airport operations, and airport property management.

The design was based on a density model rather than a coverage model due to the numerous simultaneous connections to individual access points.  The system will provide coverage to over 6 million square feet of indoor space, 10,000 acres of outdoor space, and serve over 43 million passengers per year.

As the Engineer of Record for this project, PGA self-performed the typical design tasks such as: Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Bid Phase, Construction Administration, and System Acceptance.
